Along with Darrell Jones and myself, we were blessed with the time and fellowship of Jeremiah and Ben. There time and energies were greatly appreciated by Stirred-Up Ministry. The team-building exercises presented by both men, stressed the importance of teamwork and cooperation within the body of Christ. The devotional and teaching times proved well for both boys and men. Each person will prayerfully apply these ideals to the everyday situations of life. These boys are continually being discipled and mentored by the ministry, and the efforts of the retreat further stressed these ideals.

The boys involved in the weekend retreat include Maurice, Elvis, Andreacas, Jalen, and James. Maurice is a very talented young man who must understand the importance of using all of his abilities. He is content to only use 20% of his talents while the other is wasted. Maurice has tremendous ability to succeed for the Kingdom. However, he must take initiative to drive out his gifts. Elvis has a leadership quality about himself. He is able to attract people to his side. He must decide whether this will be in a positive or negative manner. Pray that Elvis understands this leadership gift that God has given him and that he would use it to advance the Kingdom. Andreacas is young man who possesses many positive qualities. He is eager to please, has a strong work ethic, and a desire to grow deeper in his walk with Christ. I see great things for Andreacas if he continues to push himself toward spiritual maturity. Jalen is a very soft spoken individual who has great potential. He knows the right choices but it is up to Jalen to make these decisions. Taking responsibility for his actions is also another element that he needs to work towards. He can become whatever he chooses but he must push himself to follow the ways of Christ. The final young man is James. He is also blessed with tremendous athletic ability. His good mannered spirit is evident the moment you shake hands with him. However, James becomes so occupied with getting out of doing work rather than doing the work. He must become more focused on finishing a certain task before starting something new. Pray that James would become more proactive in seeking Christ with all of his heart, mind, soul, and strength.

Stirred-Up Ministries would be excited to be involved with your ministry in any capacity available in the future. Any laborious work that is required around the cabin would joyfully be accepted by the young men and women of Stirred-Up Ministries. I appreciate your willingness of invitation and look forward to upcoming encounters.

Ryan  Posted by Hello
Hi, my name is Jim Harry and I live in the West End neighborhood of Atlanta.
Today was my first day of volunteering at Stirred Up Ministries and boy I¹m glad I came! God has given Darrell Jones and the staff of SUM a relentless passion for sharing the love of God with young people.

>From the moment I met the kids I could tell that they¹ve been impacted
>in a
positive way through the vessel of Stirred Up Ministries. I noticed a group of kids that are well mannered and respectful of adults. I noticed a group of kids that have learned the values of hard work, discipline, and responsibility. In addition, this same group of kids could share with me all nine Fruit of the Spirit (Gal. 5:22-23) from memory! In short, these are kids that are learning how to love God with all of their heart, soul, strength, and mind.

Overall, I am excited about Stirred Up Ministries because it¹s a ministry that embodies the values of the Kingdom of God. Instead of inviting kids to a church building, leaders seek to meet young people where they¹re at, on their terms; in their neighborhoods and schools. Jesus did the same thing when He left His seat in heaven to meet us where we¹re at in our humanity.
Man, where would be at if Jesus hadn¹t come to show us the way. In same way, many of these young boys and girls would be in much different places in life if Darrell and his team wouldn¹t have reached out to them in love at some point in their life.

I hope local churches around the Atlanta region will find a way to support
this effective ministry as it seeks to fulfill its God-given mission.

STIRRED - UP MINISTRIES IS A LIVE AND WELL WE GO TO THE DARK PLACE THAT NO ONE WANTS TO GO AND WE LIVE FOR THE ONE AND WE DIE FOR THE ONE  Posted by Hello

Wednesday, July 14, 2004

My name is Jon Lipsey and I am a 19-year-old sophomore in college. This is my second year being involved with the “Stirred Up” Camp because me and my brother specifically asked to be put back in Pap’s camp.

From the very first moment I stepped into camp, I could tell that there was something extremely different about the camp and it all started with the leader and how he ran the camp. Pops is one of the greatest guys I have met and I admire him so much. The way he has given his life to serve kids and spread the gospel is amazing. He instills in them values and principals that they will develop and use the rest of their lives that will help them grow into women and men of God. He drives the importance of respecting and obeying authority, something to this day I still do not know how to do and has affected me in a negative way growing up. From the very first five minutes that we walked into his camp, I could tell that the kids respected who he was, and he made sure they did too. We were doing push ups in the first five minutes that we were in his camp, and from that moment on I could tell the drive this man had was different than a lot of people, but was something amazing. He also drives home the importance of guys respecting girls, something that has become not as important in the world we live in today. He gives his life and time to help spread the gospel and make sure they know and learn daily what it means to be a Christian and what we should do different by making our lives according to God’s way instead of ours. This ministry is amazing for the young kids in Atlanta or are at such a crucial young age of learning and developing. Pops understands that and has given his life to them, he even gives up his own home and offers it to the kids that need a home. I have never met a man like Pops with the passion of serving Christ and kid’s to allow them to live a fulfilled life. If I had to name one person I admire the most and want to strive to be as an adult besides Jesus Christ, Pops is the first person that comes to mind. His ministry helps kids develop into men and woman of God and allows them to live better, happier lives. To know that Pops has given his own life to drive for this goal is amazing, his ministry is extremely successful. If you were to come and sit through one of his days at camp, you would be able to tell immediately the difference he makes in these kid’s lives. His kid’s love and respect the man he his, even though he demands respect and is a little tougher on them then usually camp counselor’s would be. The reason he his tougher is because he knows it works, he has been affected by God, and is fulfilling his passion of a successful camp that serves and helps kids year round.

I have been extremely affected by this great Man of God, and I have not even been through his camp more than two weeks. Spending time with kids, I can see the difference he makes in their lives, and how much the love the man. His ministry is extremely affected in changing the lives of kids year round for the glory of God.

My name is Dave Bretch, and I am the Director of Student Ministries at 4 Mile Church in Beaver, PA. During the week of July 12-15, I brought a group of high school students to Stirred Up Ministries in Atlanta, Georgia. We spent time with children by playing basketball, softball, four square, running track, and having daily devotions with them. The thing I appreciate most about Darrell’s ministry is that everything that is done, whether it is playing ball or eating, Darrell incorporates Scripture into it. For example, when we are doing jumping jacks as a group, if one person falters, the whole group starts over. Darrell referenced the passage from 1 Corinthians 12 where it talks about the need for the body of Christ to work together. This gets students constantly thinking about Scripture even in daily menial tasks. Darrell also takes a holistic ministry approach. Not only does he challenge their minds, but he also stretches them by making them participate in challenging athletic exercises. Our body is the temple of God; therefore, we must stretch it beyond its limits, and keep it in good shape. The students and I have been blessed by Darrell’s ministry. We have been challenged in our walk with Christ, and we learned the importance of stepping out of our comfort zone and getting to know people with whom we don’t normally spend time.
My name is Sherri Paytas and I am from the Pittsburgh, PA area. I am here in Atlanta on a youth mission trip with Four Mile Church. I came on the trip because my daughter has come to Atlanta on mission trips before and our youth director asked my if I would be interested in coming(actually he asked me three times before I finally answered him and the Lord!} I came here to Pops camp because that is the group that I was assigned to through the Atlanta Youth Project (but I am here because this is where the Lord wants me to be!} I must admit that I groaned when they told our group that we would be spending our time at Pops. We had heard that it was a pretty intense camp and we would be doing lots of exercise, and I know that I am out of shape! Well, during our group time that night I told them that I was nervous about going there—but my favorite bible verse is from Phillipians 4:13”I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” So I turned it all over to the Lord and knew He wouldn’t fail me. What a blessing to find Pops and the kids saying Phil. 4:13! The image I had of Pops in my mind was not the Pops that I met. I guess I pictured a drill sergeant barking orders, stern, and unforgiving. Yes, Pops expects discipline from the whole camp, but it is the same discipline he expects from himself. When the people from our church group asked me what he was like, I said “He is one cool guy!” We all need discipline in our lives to stay focused, to remain faithful. I am so touched by the way Pops includes scripture, biblical lessons, and how we apply them to everything we do and everything we say in all the activities that the kids do. He is truly an inspirational guy. He reminds the kids (and adults) that we are encouragers and we should build up the body of Christ—for that is what we are. I have had an amazing time here. I loved meeting the kids and playing games with them ! I know I have learned a lot personally from Pops and I pray for the kids here at the camp for they are truly blessed to be able to spend time here to learn and grow in Christ. I know my daughter, Allison, who is here with me, has also been truly blessed by Pops and this camp. I will hold Pops, Miss Sarah, the camp and kids in my prayers. The Lord puts us in places and circumstances where He knows we need to be and I am thankful that He put me at Pops camp this week! It truly has been a blessing for me!
My name is Julie Nugent, I’m fourteen years old and I’m from
Atlanta .I signed up to go to this mission trip to help underprivileged
kids because I know what it is like to live the way they have to.
I grew up in southern California in the not so nice part of town.
But one thing these kids have that I didn’t was someone to tell
Me about Christ .I think its so awesome that “Pops” (Darrell)
To devote his life to Jesus and these kids .Their so great!
They know Jesus and they love him and pops! I am so happy I got to
Come here and experience these wonderful people!

My name is Allison Paytas. I¹m a 17-year-old girl from Pittsburgh, PA, I came to Atlanta, Georgia on a mission trip with my church. On this mission trip there were churches from Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, and Atlanta. We were divided up into groups and each day all of the different groups went to a children¹s camp. I feel so very blessed to have been sent to Stirred Up Ministries.

I¹ll admit that at first I was a little scared when I find out that I would be going to Stirred Up, mainly because of the rumors from last year¹s group that it was ³like a boot camp and Pops was like a drill sergeant.² However whenever I arrived at Stirred Up I didn¹t find those rumors to be true at all. Pops is an amazing guy who devotes his life to the Lord and by doing that he also devotes his lives to these children. I absolutely loved how the camp was run which was starting each day with a devotional, then some different games and free time to play things such as 4-square, dodge ball, and knockout.

Pops also believes in strengthening the body by doing various exercises such as knee bends, jumping jacks, crunches, etc.
Before I came to the camp when people told me that Pops made the kids exercise I didn¹t really understand why. But the first day I arrived at the camp Pops explained why he does it. He said, ³We need to strengthen our bodies as well as our minds because if God needs you to run four miles would you be able to do that? ² His reason and explanation made perfect sense to me and I just thought to myself, ³Why didn¹t I think of that before and why hadn¹t anyone asked me a question like that?²

I was very upset when I find out that we would only be at Stirred Up for two days but as a result of that I vowed that I was going to do anything and everything in my power to make those two days wonderful. And they truly have been. I have learned more from Pops in two days than I¹ve learned in the past two months. And it is not just bible verses and stories,; it¹s life lessons. One of the things that Pops repeated about a million times in these two days and mainly while we were exercising is Philippians 4:13, ³I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.² I think this is the most valuable thing that these children learn here. This is something that will carry with them through the rest of their lives.

I thank God for Pops and Miss Sara and everything that they do for these children. I also thank the Lord that I was sent to Stirred Up. I¹ve learned lessons from Pops that I really think I couldn¹t have learned from anyone but him. The way he presented to these lessons was unique and very powerful. God has truly blessed these children with Pops and Miss Sara and it has been a wonderful experience here.

Later on the day, we had to do knee bends and jumping jacks. At first I didn¹t like the idea and I thought that I was going to be physically dead after all that exercise, but when Pops said ³You have to be strong, mentally and spiritually. If your relationship with Christ in strong, your mind will also be strong. If your mind is strong, your body will be strong.
Phillipians 4:13 ¬ I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.² Those words just kept repeating in my head and I did not give up. That has got to be the message that moved me the most.

I truly feel that Pops is a true man of God. I consider him as a contagious Christian, someone who just makes you want to be around them, someone who knows exactly what to say and exactly the right time. I am blessed with the fact that I had the honor of coming to his camp.

My name is Rafael Ferreira. I¹m seventeen years old and I live in Atlanta, Georgia. A few weeks ago, I was asked to come on a mission trip here in Atlanta. Since I already had experienced it last year, I decided that a second year would be fun. Like last year, there were three different churches participating in it and working for the glory of God, and we would all stay at Atlanta Youth Academy for the week. Once we all arrived there, we were put into groups and each group is assigned a day camp to go to every morning. When I first found out that our camp was Stirred Up, I was a little intimidated by the things that I heard about it and the director.

The first morning I was still thinking about everything I had heard. We started to walk to the camp since it is so close, but on the way, Pops was so nice enough to bring his bus and pick us up. I was a little confused trying to figure out if all that I heard was actually true. Then we arrived at the camp and the first thing that we did was have a little devotion time.
It has got to be one of the best devotion times I have ever had. The words Pops used to teach us were just incredible. He left me speechless afterwards. After devotion, we had free time, and the fact that Pops can take any little thing that happens and adds scripture to it and it¹s always an amazing message. No matter how big or small it is, no matter how many times I have heard a verse before, when Pops uses them, it¹s like I had never heard it before.

Stirred Up Ministries Assessment

The past three weeks I have had the opportunity to work alongside Pops, within Stirred-Up Ministries. I am part of a yearlong service/volunteer program called Mission Year. I plan on assisting throughout the summer months or until Pops gives me the ax. I have already been exposed to many valuable insights during my time here.
Beginning the first day of camp, unity and discipline have been stressed. I am impressed with that fact that every task or assignment is done for a purpose. Every moment is seen as teaching experience whether in the classroom, on the bus, or during exercise. Each component of Stirred-Up is taught at any particular moment of camp. The three components I am speaking include the spiritual, mental, and physical make up of each individual.
These components are balanced throughout the camp. Incorporating each dynamic is crucial to the development of the spirit, mind, and body. For example, while performing leg lifts campers must recite the fruit of the Spirit learned the previous day. The flesh is weak, so we must be able to rely on the Holy Spirit at all times. This is one key to Stirred-Up that I haven’t witnessed in other camps.
The young people are also taught the importance of the body of Christ. When one part isn’t working the whole body suffers (I Corinthians 12). Pops relates this by drilling the statement, “We are a what?” with campers in response “TEAM!” Not only is this taught verbally but physically and emotionally. When one member of the body is struggling, as Christians we are called to pick them up and encourage them. This concept is easily seen during the exercise portions when team members literally grab one another by the hand and encourage them through the end.
Once all the pieces are in place this camp is going to increase in expectation and output. The first three weeks have been different from years past because of the inability for a week off after school released. Everyday is a learning experience from both sides of the fence. I am learning from them and hopefully they are learning from me (at least anatomical structure).
The camp strives for excellence, all the while expressing grace and mercy in the way Christ disciplines his children. I am looking forward to possibly seeing these kids 10 years from now and the impact they will have on society. Though 10 years is too far away for some because they are beginning now.

Prayer:
I ask you pray for this camp. Pray that each child may truly accept God’s love and Jesus dying on the cross. May they not see it as a religious thing, church thing, or spiritual thing but a relationship thing. Pray they understand that Jesus seeks a personal relationship with each individual. Pray for their emotional, physical, sexual, and mental protection in the years to come. Pray that each young person will become a leader within his or her peer groups, families, and schools. Pray that they would be bold in speech and exhibit I Timothy 4:12-13…don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and purity. Until I come, devout yourself to the public reading of the Scripture, to preaching and to teaching. Pray for the everyday needs of the camp. The cost of running this camp isn’t cheap so ask that God would continue to supply every need to be supplied. Pray for Darrell and Sarah so they would continue to pour out Christ’s love into each young person. May the Holy Spirit be there strength each day. Give them discernment and wisdom to make the right choices. Pray they would be open to changes and truly listening to the voice of God. May Galatians 6:9 be on their hearts…let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
Pray Holy Spirit guidance in every aspect of Stirred-Up Ministries. These young people are experiencing true Christian disciplines, for they must take advantage of this time set before them.

Stirred-Up Ministry individual report.

Jasmine:
She is a young lady who has many good qualities including discipline, obedience, and a smile. She is willing to do anything that is asked of her. She is someone who will give her all no matter the circumstance of life.

Jasmine has a very gentle spirit about her and her smile is evident the first time you meet. She is eager and ready to learn more about the Bible and what it means to truly follow Christ. Jasmine can easily be considered a follower due to a lack of vocal authority. However, her actions often do the talking for her.

Jasmine is also very physically gifted. She is more an endurance athlete rather than possessing quick bursts of speed. Her endurance also must transfer to her spiritual life to see God’s glory revealed through Jasmine. Pray that Jasmine would continue to follow Christ and be the example that He has called her to be. Pray that she would interact more with the others to break her timid spirit. She has a lot of positive action to offer her peers. Pray God would give her boldness in speech.

Porshay:
She is a young lady who enjoys her attitude. She has many likeable characteristics when she chooses to display that fruit. Her attitude and smile can be very contagious to anyone who is nearby. She has the ability to become whatever she desires.

The fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22) came easily for Porshay to memorize. She was actually the first member to repeat them back from memory. She now must be in the process of putting the fruit into practice during everyday interactions. A gifted athlete, Porshay is in the process of refining her skills in running, dance, and basketball. Not necessarily in that order. She must continue to strive for excellence in academics, athletics, and her walk with Christ. She has to attitude and drive to become anything she desires.

Pray for Porshay that she would display self-control for she has many gifts that God would love to use. May she use spirit judgment rather than flesh judgment. Pray that God would open her heart more to the Gospel and fruit that will be present when she obeys.

Maurice:
He is one of the young male team leaders within the camp. God has gifted him tremendously. He has all the tools; smarts, passion, and athletically. Maurice aims to please. He has the ability to become anything he wants, such as a doctor or NFL wide receiver. When he decides to give 100% at whatever he does he will certainly give glory to God through this. If not, he will be wasting the talents that God has gifted him. For Luke 12:48 … from everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked. He displays this verse with many talents. Maurice must know that God has given him much so he will use it for much God glory.
To become a more vital leader he also needs to learn to speak on actions. He must be able to encourage and lead others because that is a responsibility. His attractive personality can be contagious to other individuals. Maurice is one of the top athletes we have this summer. He has no clue as to the potential that God has blessed him with athletically. As long as he continues to work hard he will use these gifts to honor God. Pray for Maurice that he would understand that without God and education his physical skills wouldn’t be used effectively for the Kingdom. Pray that Maurice will not allow any peers to drag him down and lower the expectation before him. My prayer for him is
I Corinthians 15:33…do not be misled: Bad company corrupts good character. I see God rising up a leader. It’s up to Maurice to follow in His ways.

Ricardo (Toy):
He is a smart young man who enjoys sports and reading. He has many talents that can be used though they seem under developed at this particular stage in his life. Toy seems to know the Bible but lacks the comprehension, which can be a normal thing for a 4th grader. Toy shows interest in spiritual matters yet doesn’t see the importance throughout life due to a lack in home life guidance.

Academically Toy has a wide vocabulary. He enjoys reading and writing. Pray for
Toy that he might become more focused on the task at hand. Pray that he might relinquish his ways to that of the Lord. Toy is one who constantly needs pushed towards excellence. At this point in life it doesn’t seem to be a priority for him. Pray that Toy would push himself for the Lord. I am excited to see him mature into a stellar young man for God.

Cajava:
She is a young lady who enjoys sports and is one of the camps selected team leaders. She has many talents and abilities that God wants to use. Cajava is entering into life with a lack of self-control. She allows her surroundings to determine her attitude for that particular moment.

Cajava is certainly gifted athletically as well. God has given her a natural running stride. When she decides to get somewhere it comes with ease. Being selected as a leader has given her a sense of responsibility. She must decide whether or not she is going to take on this role or back away and allow someone to take her place. I am excited to know that she has tremendous ability for success at this camp and in the years to come.

Pray for Cajava that she would understand her potential. Pray that she would get deeper with Christ and that His ways would become more evident. Attitude and self-control are key areas in which she must concentrate towards. She must also learn that when things don’t go her way, Christ calls us to a spirit of obedience and trust. Cajava has great influence and it’s up to her if it’s a positive or negative choice.

Walter:
He is a young man entering the 3rd grade. He possesses a gentle spirit that continually needs pushed. He enjoys many sports and his outgoing personality was evident the first time we met. His smile and braids are unmistakable at the camp.
I don’t know how much spiritual life Walter possesses. He is trying to understand who God is and His plan at a young age.
Walter is going to be a good athlete. He has the quickness of a sprinter or running back. He will soon have his day under the sun. Patience is a characteristic that Walter needs to view his time. The one mechanical error is Walter’s strides. His short, choppy steps limit his true potential. As he grows and matures Walter will begin to work on this aspect of his running style.
Academically, Walter is eager to learn but must keep his focus on the task at hand. Focus can be hard for and adult let alone a 3rd grade student. His pleasant attitude must be used to bring joy to others. This gift is being refined each day by pointing out the correlation between inner joy and outward joy towards individuals. Pray for Walter that he would understand and learn more about God. Pray that he would show interest in God and that it would become more relevant in his future. Pray for attitude of excellence through focus because there is many gifts God will use through this young man.

Gabriel:
He is a young man that enjoys sports of all kinds and a jokester here and there. He possesses a “do it” attitude that is going to be used mightily wherever God leads Gabriel. This attitude simply doesn’t ask questions or complain when something is asked of him.

Gabriel has the ability to become anything he desires. He must continue to focus on the brain that God has given him and not be dragged down or lower the expectations set before him. His compact frame would fit perfectly onto any offensive line in the city. He must continue to work hard to chisel his body into the strongman mentality. His body is in the process of defining itself as a physical presence. If Gabriel continues a strong and determined work ethic he will do great things on and off the field.
Gabriel has a willing spirit. He must not hold back any of himself from God. Pray that he would seek to increase his understanding of God. Pray that he would seek to listen to God outside of the church walls. God wants to use Gabriel to break stereotypes and build on his physical strength through spiritual strength.

Michael:
He is one of the oldest boys in the camp, entering into the 8th grade in the fall. He is a very smart individual. He exhibits a confidence in himself and his abilities, when used in a positive manner can increase his success towards edifying his brothers and sisters.
Michael has displayed a need for self-control. He must realize his potential and the gifts that God has given him. He has the tools to become anything he wants. His physical attributes are inspiring as well. He has been blessed with an athletic body. It is up to him to use this to it’s full Kingdom potential.

Pray for Michael that he may join his faith and knowledge into his everyday interactions. Pray that he will learn Christ-control and the ability to direct his choices towards God’s path. Pray that Michael will get respect because has is lacking in this area of his life.

Jalen:
He is young man who has a very gentle and mild personality. He is laid back in his approach to many interactions during camp. Jalen has displayed a good work ethic during parts of camp. He must learn to give it his all during every activity.

God has blessed Jalen with many quality characteristics. He must be ready and willing to push himself in every aspect of life to refine these qualities. Jalen has a willing spirit that God can certainly use for his glory. He is bright young man with a bright future. Pray that he may learn to implement Colossians 3:23-24…Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is Christ you are serving. He is going to impact a lot of his peers. Pray that he will seek the Lord with all of his heart, mind, soul, and strength.

Jermica:
She is a young lady with a tremendous amount of life and joy. She hardly ever isn’t smiling. This certainly relays to other kids she is around. I would relate her to the old Energizer Bunny commercial, she keeps “Going, and Going, and Going…”
Jermica displays a confident attitude beyond her years. She shows an interest in spiritual matters. I pray she would continue to seek the Lord in her life. She is willing and eager to answer questions concerning the Bible. Her relationship with Christ is maturing as the days proceed.
Like I previously mentioned, Jermica has plenty of energy. She seems to never stop and regularly beats other runners in the camp. She is not intimidated by size or age. She is willing and able to give it her all. Pray that she would continue to not be intimidated. My prayer for her is Paul’s charge to Timothy…don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity. She has a willing spirit that must be refined a nurtured in the faith, for God has great plans for her. Pray that she would continue to see her importance in life.

Andrecas:
A.J., as he is known possesses a very willing attitude. He is ready to do anything that is asked of him without posing a question. He has a stellar work ethic but must continue to push himself to become the young man of God that He desires.
A.J. has been blessed with athletic characteristics. He enjoys many sports, with his favorite being baseball and football. In baseball he displays a wicked swing and fits the shortstop position perfectly. When A.J. pushes himself he has tremendous ability. Academically he has many gifts. He is an honor student in school and has the smarts to achieve his goals.
God can certainly use his aggressive spirit in many avenues of the future. God is searching for young people like A.J. who are aggressive for the Gospel. Pray that he would continually seek Christ and push towards the prize ahead of him (Phil. 3:14). May he seek Christ before anything in his life and know that God must come before sports for His trophy is eternal and never tarnishes.

Alexus:
She is one of our youngest campers. However, she displays a very mature spirit. She has a very infectious smile that can’t help bring joy when you see her. She is willing to do anything that is asked of her. She gives 100% at whatever she does. She’s been gifted with a tremendous amount of heart and ability. These are two good combinations in the running world. I am excited to see the progress of Alexus’s skills as she matures. As long as she continues to push herself, she will succeed.
Spiritually, Alexus has a good hold on God at such a young age. She has impressed me by her fruit displayed through her attitude and treatment of other kids. She shows an interest in going deeper with God. Pray that she would continue to understand who God is and His plan in her life. May she have a passion for the Lord and everything shall be added unto to her. Pray that she continues down the path of righteousness.

Tyjanne:
She is a young lady who has leadership qualities. She doesn’t have to say a word and you can sense her presence. She can truly be a leader in whatever path that she takes in life.
Tyjanne possesses a magnificent stride. She is able to take one step for everyone else’s two. She must realize the importance of this aspect of her running gift. Her understanding of God is becoming more evident as I am around her. Pray for her that she would not become discouraged with herself or others. She gets down on herself by saying she can’t do something but always is able to accomplish the task when performed. Pray that her attitude would become more positive in outlook towards herself. God is working on Tyjanne and wanting her to step up to the plate to seek His ways in her life. She is certainly able to accomplish anything by trusting in God.

Tyjara:
T.J. is a young lady who is also has many quality characteristics. She is able to do anything that is asked of her. She has the ability to become anything she desires. She possesses a willing spirit but the flesh is weak. She wants to please but allows her circumstances to control her actions. She knows God and has displayed some fruit from that understanding.
Physically, T.J. has and outstanding long stride. She has the body to be a tremendous 200 or 400-meter sprinter. She doesn’t know her abilities. As long as she begins to push herself spiritually, T.J. will become more apt for physical success.
Pray that T.J. would sense God in relevant ways. May she head the words of James 1:19…my dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, for a man’s anger doesn’t bring about the righteous life that God desires. Pray that she would surrender her flesh and seek the spiritual discipline that is hers for the taking. Pray that her surroundings would not influence her attitude and effort.

Frances:
This young lady is one of our team leaders. She is our Mighty Mouse because she gives it her all in everything she does. Her leadership characteristics are evident in speech and action alike. Frances is a joy to be around and her work ethic speaks for itself. She strives for excellence in and out of the classroom. I am excited to see her continue to push herself towards greatness. She is quite the encourager to fellow peers as well. If she sets high expectations her peers will have to fall in line or they will be left in her dust.
Physically, Frances is short in stature but gigantic in heart and effort. Her pursuit towards maturity is going to present success in whatever path she travels. Pray that she continues down God’s path and that she may increase her knowledge and passion for the Lord. He has implanted many quality skills and pray that she would use them towards the glory of God.

Laron:
He is young man show has many characteristics that God wants to use. Laron is young in his faith but he must strive towards the path of maturity. He personality is being developed during the time I have spent with him. Laron is gifted in many areas. I don’t believe that he has a concept of his physical, spiritual, or mental gifts. He is young in age and maturity this must develop over time. He needs to learn to take responsibility for his actions and what the best decision is for him during that moment. He tends to point towards others and must learn his role within the body of Christ.
Laron has many talents and enjoys sports. I hope this continues down the road of life because God is going to use him for His glory. Pray for Laron that he would understand the importance of a spiritual foundation. Pray that he would understand the need for responsibility and the consequences for good and bad choices. He has a bright future ahead as long as Christ is set before him.

Brandajia:
B.J. is a young lady who has been a team leader for two years. I am at a loss for words to describe her potential. She possesses the skills and athleticism of an Olympic athlete at her age. B.J. has many leadership qualities and at times a mature attitude. Spiritually, B.J. knows all the right answers. She is maturing in her faith and must keep pushing herself and seeking Christ with all her heart.
B.J. will “try” anyone, no matter his or her age. She has stern spirit that can certainly be used for the Kingdom. She is a bright individual that has no limit as to what she can become. Like I have mentioned before, B.J. is beyond her age physically. She has a very athletic nature and talent overflowing every part of her body. It gives me chills to watch her run for she has the ability beyond what the eye may see. Pray for B.J. that she would push herself spiritually, academically, and physically. Her maturity demands she be at another level. Pray that her attitude would fall in line with that of Christ and that it would not get in the way of her success.

Daresha:
She is a young lady with eyes the size of Texas. Hence, the name “Pretty Eyes” is attached to her. Her ling smile is also a tool she uses to relay joy. Daresha is quiet and to herself a lot of time. She displays little confidence in her skills and abilities. There is much inside that God wants to blossom for his use. Daresha has a very inward personality. She doesn’t speak often though her smile says a lot. She enjoys reading, sports, and dance. Pray her interest in spiritual matters would increase. She has much potential but she needs to learn how to relay that information to other individuals. Pray she would open up and share her feelings. Pray that she would become obedient to the will and call of God upon her life. She must learn to push herself to become the young woman that God has called her to become. Pray she would be an encouragement to her peers and a light among her family.

Chasity:
She is a young lady with a quiet spirit. She is able to do anything that is asked of her. Chasity must remember that she is responsible for herself and must not look to others when things go wrong. Pray that she would relinquish her pride so that God may come and do great works within and through her. Her gentle and quiet spirit must be challenged through the word of God.

Elvis:
He is a young man who has been apart of camp three years. Elvis has a contagious attitude. He has the ability to persuade others without saying a word. Whether or not he chooses to affect in a positive or negative manner is determined by his choice. Elvis had the opportunity to travel with Pops to Brazil the past week with Clairmont Presbyterian Church Mission trip. I pray this time encouraged him to understand the benefits and opportunity set before him. This camp is a perfect place to begin and learn the Christian disciplines required to spread the love of Christ. He knows the expectation that Pops has set. Pray that Elvis will decide to meet and exceed these expectations. He certainly has the ability to become what he chooses, though he must decide whether he will allow God to mold him into the man of God that is desired. I pray Elvis would surrender his will and life to God more deeply. May he understand that the fruit from his life is important with his walk with Christ.

Nova:
She is a young lady who enjoys being active not only physically, but with her vocal chords as well. Nova has been apart of camp for two years. She must learn what the fruit of the Spirit actually mean to understand her relationship with God. I pray that Nova takes advantage of the grace and mercy represented within camp. She must learn the advantage of a loving relationship and the disciplines that follow. Nova is gifted athletically as well. Her natural sprinting stride can be dangerous to her opponents if she is willing to listen and give 100%. Otherwise, this gift will sorrowfully be wasted. Pray that Nova will push herself spiritually, physically, and academically to meet the expectations set before her. May she take advantage of this time to learn the importance of love that requires her all.

James:
He is young that has an open smile and an open heart. He is very obedient that doesn’t take much instruction. His gentle spirit is easily seen because of his desire to be at camp everyday. Our prayer for him is that he would grow in the confidence of God.

Stirred-Up Ministries - Home
Ricardo Clark, or “Toy,” as some refer to him, is nine years old and will be in fourth grade next year at John Hope Elementary in Atlanta. He lives with his mother and step-father and his brothers and sisters, all of whom I’ve never met. People call him “Toy” because he always plays around.

He enjoys playing sports, especially basketball, and X-box with his brothers. He’s a very smart kid, able to read and do math according to his grade level. But he doesn’t take initiative to learn or take advantage of programs and relationships that will benefit him. But, then again, how many nine year olds understand what is beneficial to them, especially in the long run?

His mother has a job and keeps up the house. But she is an only child and was spoiled, so she has a hard time disciplining her kids. As far as I can tell, Toy is getting very little spiritual input or guidance in the home. When I talk to him about Jesus, he seems to know all the answers but I don’t think he has truly yielded his life to Christ yet.

Toy needs your prayers for his future. He shows a lot of potential, but if he doesn’t start to understand how to respond to authorities and take responsibility for his actions, he will need serious help in the future. Toy is smart, but that can be used by the enemy as well as God. Pray that God would pull him out of situations that would cause him to stray from His plan for his life. Pray that Toy would see the joy of loving Jesus and being found as a child of the King and that all of that would supercede all the temptations that come on him during his youth. If Toy had a solid spiritual foundation, I would feel a lot better about where he’s going, his future. But his situation is very unsure right now.

If he came to the Lord, God would use Him to do mighty things. God has started some incredible things in Toy and He wants to use them for His glory.

Pray most of all that Toy would show interest in the Gospel, that it would be relevant to him. And pray for those working with Toy, that they would not give up but persevere in showing love to him and trusting that God’s plan will be fulfilled in his life.

Ministry UpdateMaurice Calhoun Interview

Maurice Calhoun is a 12 year old boy involved in the Stirred-Up Ministry and Club 226. Born in Atlanta, GA on December 23, 1971, Maurice is currently 12 years old and attends Coan Middle School. At Coan, Maurice most enjoys his Math and Physical Education classes and of course, his lunch period.

Maurice’s favorite hobbies include playing sports, watching TV and movies, listening to music and hanging out with friends. Favorite TV shows include Sponge Bob Square Pants, Fairly Odd Parents and Scartacticts and least favorite is Barney. His favorite movie is ‘Rome Must Die’ and his favorite movie star is VinDiesel. And though he likes several different musicians, the artist he enjoys the most is Ludacris. His favorite song is ‘Splash Waterfall’ by Ludacris.

With the summer coming up, Maurice is looking forward to going on vacation somewhere with his family. His favorite vacation ever was the trip his family took to Daytona Beach, Florida where they visited American Adventure and went swimming and rollercoaster riding.

Maurice’s favorite food is hot wings and his favorite restaurant is Golden Coral where he enjoys signing the ‘birthday song’. If he could speak another language he would speak French and if he could play any instrument he would like to play the drums. If he could have a pet fish he would call it Patrick and the one thing he really would like to know that he doesn’t know now is how they make video games. And if he could have just one super power he would love to be able to fly!

Of all of his hobbies, sports is by far Maurice’s greatest passion. He excels at many sports and enjoys every sport except hockey and soccer. His number one sport of choice however is football. And his favorite football player is Michael Vick, Quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons.

When Maurice graduates from high school he plans on playing football at the University of Miami on an athletic scholarship. In college he would like to specialize on playing cornerback and wide receiver, his best positions. After playing for the Hurricanes, Maurice then plans on being drafted to play in the NFL. After a healthy career in professional football, Maurice plans on settling down in Miami and doing whatever it is that Bill Gates does. When he has earned his first $1 million, Maurice would like to buy a new house for his family to live in complete with a Cadillac Escalade, swimming pools, a movie theater and a helicopter pad. Ultimately, Maurice is motivated to succeed so he can use his abilities to help his mom, family and his community.

Maurice accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior as a little boy when he was at church 5 years ago. His favorite thing about Jesus is that He tells the Truth and what He says always comes true. And his favorite thing about Club 226 is the people, the activities and the opportunity to hear more about the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
